The favourite in that feature will attract most of the attention, but the better wager may be the mare waiting to test him. NEXT BEST: Sonas

The opener is not a race in which to be clever for its own sake. Telegram Sam has already shown the most persuasive hurdling form, notably when third at Kilbeggan, and his ability to travel close to the pace should keep him clear of the traffic that can compromise a big maiden field.

Sonas is the credible alternative at 6/1. He has enough substance in his Flat background to improve over hurdles and the price allows for his relative inexperience, but Telegram Sam looks the runner most likely to produce his best effort without needing the race to fall apart.

NEXT BEST: Colesberg

Cool Summer brings the soundest blend of recent form, a workable mark and tactical adaptability. This is competitive, yet 4/1 is fair compensation for taking on a field containing several runners whose recent profiles are less dependable.

Colesberg is respected at 13/2. He has the pace to hold a useful position and is not badly treated, although Cool Summer looks the safer proposition if the race becomes a test of accurate jumping and sustained pressure.

NEXT BEST: Kimi De Mai

Wicked Pleasure has shaped as though this switch to hurdles should suit. Her bumper thirds include form with more depth than the bare finishing positions suggest, and she can improve past rivals whose hurdle form is already more exposed.

Kimi De Mai is the obvious danger at 6/5 after an improved second at Kilbeggan. She sets a solid standard, but the short price assumes another clean step forward, whereas Wicked Pleasure offers the more attractive exchange between potential and price.

NEXT BEST: Bruise Hill

Jurality was caught only in the final stride at Navan nine days ago after travelling strongly. That evidence is both recent and directly relevant, and the 17/2 available with four places makes her the right each-way play in a race where several arrive with questions over consistency.

Bruise Hill is the strongest alternative at 11/2. He has a broadly reliable profile for this grade and should be involved if reproducing his better runs, but Jurality has the sharper current evidence and may still be a little ahead of her mark.

NEXT BEST: Paradise Lost

Watching The Clock took a clear step forward when second over three miles at Wexford. He remains lightly raced as a staying chaser and should be able to hold a prominent position before the race begins to stretch down the back.

Paradise Lost is a legitimate threat at 13/2, particularly if the leaders overdo it. Watching The Clock is preferred because his latest run supplied stronger evidence of stamina and reliable jumping at the trip.

NEXT BEST: Daddy Long Legs

Daddy Long Legs is entitled to dominate the market, but 1/4 leaves no room for the ordinary risks of a five-runner novice chase. Femme Magnifique has won her last two chase starts and three of her last four races, and 13/2 underrates how much pressure a progressive mare can apply if the favourite is less than fluent.

Daddy Long Legs remains the likeliest winner and therefore the next best at 1/4. The bet, however, is Femme Magnifique at the price. Her recent RPR of 119 shows that this is not merely a speculative attempt to oppose a favourite.

NEXT BEST: Jolie Jewel

Chosen Shant won two starts ago over fences and now returns to the larger obstacles after a hurdles run. That change matters: his jumping can earn him a better position than several habitual hold-up horses, and 11/2 is a fair price for a runner whose best recent evidence came in this discipline.

Jolie Jewel is the principal danger at 5/2. She has the cleaner market profile and fewer obvious doubts, but Chosen Shant offers more value if returning to the level of his chase success.

NEXT BEST: Finest Band

Dr Bones is asked to win a bumper on debut, but the pedigree, stable and booking of Patrick Mullins all point to a purposeful introduction. In a race without a proven standout, 2/1 is acceptable rather than prohibitive, and this is the strongest win bet on the card.

Finest Band is the best alternative at 7/2 and brings the reassurance of experience. The Last Line is a separate value play at 14/1: his debut second carried an RPR of 120, but the 815-day absence is too serious to ignore, so the four-year-old receives each-way protection rather than being made the headline choice.

Best bets of the day

Dr Bones at 2/1 is the NAP because this bumper lacks a rival with a level of proven form that should frighten a well-related Mullins newcomer. Watching The Clock at 4/1 is the next best, his Wexford second suggesting that stamina and chase craft are beginning to come together. Jurality and The Last Line supply the day's each-way interest for very different reasons: one is thriving now, the other has old form of real substance but a long absence to overcome.
