The Cambridgeshire Meeting begins with a card that moves steadily from maiden promise to Group and Listed tests before two competitive handicaps. There are 66 active runners across seven races after three confirmed non-runners. The Tattersalls Stakes is the centrepiece, and it is there that a promising York winner can take the next step.

Newmarket 13:15 | Code Of Honour | 3pt win at 5/4, BetVictor

NEXT BEST: Netherstream at 9/4

The market has found Code Of Honour despite the absence of public racecourse form, and the support is understandable. Charlie Appleby's juveniles are operating at a high level, William Buick takes the ride and this colt is bred to improve as the mile unfolds. Netherstream supplies the most substantial public evidence after finishing close up at Sandown and third on the July Course, but he has had two chances and may again lack a decisive change of gear. Hamrin is the other newcomer with obvious stable credibility. At 5/4 with BetVictor, Code Of Honour is a 3pt win selection. The price accepts debut uncertainty without treating the experienced runners as stronger than they look.

VERDICT: Code Of Honour, 3pt win at 5/4, BetVictor. Back only at Evens or bigger; Netherstream at 9/4 is the next best.

NEXT BEST: Lady Roxby at 10/3

Bear On The Run is progressive and deserves respect after winning at the Curragh, but a wide draw and a sharp rise in grade make 5/2 short enough. Woohoo has been admirably consistent, finishing second five times in succession before a respectable York sixth over seven furlongs. The return to six furlongs and good ground are positives, and David Egan is a strong booking for a mare racing from a workable mark of 78. She does not possess the favourite's scope, yet the gap between 8/1, General, three places and the front of the market is wider than the evidence warrants. The advice is 1pt each-way. Lady Roxby is the strongest alternative at 10/3 after consecutive seconds, but she is priced accordingly.

Newmarket 14:25 | Black Velvet Boy | 2pt win at 9/2, Bet365

NEXT BEST: Lazurite at 3/1

The case for Black Velvet Boy rests on repeatable turf form. He won twice from the front before finishing a close second at Thirsk, where he kept responding after being challenged. The current mark of 83 asks for more, but Oisin Murphy takes over and the colt has already shown that a strongly run five furlongs suits. Lazurite is respected after an easy all-weather success, although her new mark is based partly on promise rather than a comparable turf handicap effort. Minzelle and Harry Knows add depth. At 9/2 with Bet365, Black Velvet Boy is a 2pt win bet because his price still understates his reliability in a race full of less settled profiles.

VERDICT: Black Velvet Boy, 2pt win at 9/2, Bet365. Back only at 4/1 or bigger; Lazurite at 3/1 is the next best.

NEXT BEST: Great Balls O'Fire at 11/4

Mezzo Forte is the NAP after a decisive York success over seven furlongs. He travelled comfortably on softer ground, quickened clear and now gets Ryan Moore for a stable adept at developing late-season juveniles. Great Balls O'Fire created a strong impression on debut, but he must jump from a maiden straight into Group 3 company and his 11/4 price already assumes major progress. Fuel The Jet and Jimtrott bring useful achieved form, while Varzi's rating commands respect. Mezzo Forte has both the visual promise and a more forgiving 7/2, General price, so the official advice is 2pt win.

VERDICT: Mezzo Forte, 2pt win at 7/2, General. Back only at 3/1 or bigger; Great Balls O'Fire at 11/4 is the next best.

Newmarket 15:35 | Arabian Force | 2pt win at 11/2, BetVictor

NEXT BEST: Goblet Of Fire at 15/2

Gregory is the class horse and the one to beat, but 8/11 is restrictive after a long gap since his York win. Arabian Force was well below his best at the Curragh eleven days ago, yet his earlier Longchamp second and York third show he can operate at this level. He is rated 109, stays well and is likely to secure a better tactical position than several of the improvers. Goblet Of Fire is progressing rapidly from handicaps and rates the principal danger at 15/2, but he has twenty pounds to find on official figures. The rebound case for Arabian Force remains sound at 11/2 with BetVictor, making him a 2pt win selection rather than an each-way compromise.

VERDICT: Arabian Force, 2pt win at 11/2, BetVictor. Back only at 5/1 or bigger; Goblet Of Fire at 15/2 is the next best.

Newmarket 16:10 | Zurna | 1pt e/w at 17/2, Bet365, 3 places

NEXT BEST: King Of Berkshire at 11/8

King Of Berkshire was emphatic at Windsor and may still be ahead of his mark under a penalty, but 11/8 is a demanding price from the widest active stall. Zurna offers the better value at 17/2 with Bet365, three places. He has won his last two races over this distance on good to firm ground, including on the July Course, and the latest three-quarter-length success came with enough resolution to suggest an eight-pound rise is manageable. Charles Darnay and Astracornus are credible improvers, which makes the place component useful. The selection is 1pt each-way and the second of the day's two clearest each-way positions.

VERDICT: Zurna, 1pt e/w at 17/2, Bet365, 3 places. Back only at 15/2 or bigger; King Of Berkshire at 11/8 is the next best.

Newmarket 16:45 | Media Legend | 2pt win at 5/1, General

NEXT BEST: A La Noche at 5/1

This is the most open race on the card. Media Legend has yet to win, but he has shaped better than the bare result on several occasions and his latest fourth at Sandown came after meeting traffic before staying on. The return to a straight mile should help, and a mark of 74 leaves room for the lightly raced gelding to progress. A La Noche won at Ffos Las and is respected despite an eleven-pound rise, while Signcastle City and Potomac River are dependable without being prolific. 5/1, General is sufficient to make Media Legend a 2pt win bet. A La Noche is the price-only next best at the same available price, reflecting a race in which small tactical advantages may decide it.

VERDICT: Media Legend, 2pt win at 5/1, General. Back only at 9/2 or bigger; A La Noche at 5/1 is the next best.

Mezzo Forte is the NAP because his York win combined a professional attitude with a decisive finish over today's trip. Black Velvet Boy is next best of the day after two wins and a close second established a dependable five-furlong profile. Woohoo and Zurna provide the each-way value, both with suitable conditions and three verified places.
