Fire Thunder has become shorter since the early market, but 4/1 still rewards a profile built on one win and four seconds from six starts. Her nose defeat over the July Course seven furlongs reads well because the form has since been strengthened in Pattern company, and Marco Botti has his juveniles running sharply. Polyxena is unbeaten and commands respect at 13/2, although stall one can make her passage less straightforward. Fire Thunder is more exposed, but that experience is useful in a nursery and her mark of 70 still looks workable.

Quicken Away has only two runs behind him, yet both contain substance. He flew home after racing green at Newbury, then handled softer ground and a different tactical assignment when making all at Goodwood. His pedigree promises that a strongly run mile on fast ground should suit, and Andrew Balding has an excellent Royal Lodge record. Quest For Stars has won three of four and is the strongest alternative at 9/2, while Haffner brings deeper race experience. At 13/2, Quicken Away is priced as though the class rise is more daunting than his upward curve suggests.

Sun Goddess has won four in succession and five of her six starts, repeatedly finding more when the pressure has increased. That combination of speed, resolution and racecraft is a powerful one in a compact Group 1. Senorita Bonita is also thriving and is the clear danger at 2/1, while Libertango has done little wrong. The favourite must confirm superiority in a deeper contest, but 11/8 remains acceptable because she brings the strongest blend of form and reliability on the card.

Orthodox lost his unbeaten record last time, but that sixth need not define him after two authoritative wins. Push The Boat Out is unbeaten and the strongest alternative at 11/2, while Inner City Blues has also done everything asked of him. Orthodox offers the more informative body of evidence at 11/4 and is preferred to the shorter, less exposed favourite.

Gavriel is a worthy favourite at 5/1 after a smooth handicap debut success and remains well treated, but his inexperience and stall 28 make a short price uncomfortable in this field. Zennor Storm has been prepared like a horse waiting for this examination. His softer-ground York run is forgivable, and either side of it he finished strongly in large-field races at Goodwood and Ascot. The extra furlong, strong pace and his dam's stamina all point the same way. At 25/1 with Ladbrokes paying five places, the price and concession justify a measured each-way bet.

Queen Of The Gulf is the most persuasive debutant at 5/1 and represents a yard capable of readying one first time, while Ozone Friendly also brings useful experience. Ruby Sands is not bombproof, but 11/4 fairly reflects the balance between known form and likely improvement.

Arctic Dawn is the next best at 5/1 after a win two starts back, although his latest eighth makes him harder to trust. Addison Grey at 9/2 has the cleaner mix of recent form, tactical position and price.
