Galway 15:43 | City Of Gold | 3pt win at 6/5, bet365

CITY OF GOLD has already met a colt good enough to finish third in the Acomb Stakes, and his second at this course in July is the strongest form in a maiden short on proven class. First-time blinkers can sharpen his concentration, while the move from seven furlongs to the extended mile should suit a Wootton Bassett colt who was doing his best work late.

The obvious objection is the price and the presence of stablemate Noble Exhibit, a Frankel colt who shaped with promise when third in a sixteen-runner Curragh maiden. Noble Exhibit is the next best at 10/3, but the jockey bookings and City Of Gold's stronger Galway reference tilt the balance.

VERDICT: City Of Gold, 3pt win at 6/5, bet365. Back only at Evens or bigger. Noble Exhibit at 10/3 is the next best.

Galway 16:18 | Lord Massusus | 2pt win at 3/1, bet365

LORD MASSUSUS has been operating below his best, but this is a significant class drop for a previous Group 3 winner and dual Listed scorer. He ran better than his final position suggested at Galway in July, handles easy ground and now wears blinkers for the first time. A mark of 88 gives him a clear ceiling advantage if the headgear restores even part of his old fluency.

Lady Arwen is the next best at 11/2 after a productive summer and has fewer questions about current wellbeing. Java Wood is also respected after winning at Gowran. The risk is that Lord Massusus has simply lost his edge, but 3/1 is fair compensation in a race where his opponents must still prove they can reach his established level.

VERDICT: Lord Massusus, 2pt win at 3/1, bet365. Back only at 11/4 or bigger. Lady Arwen at 11/2 is the next best.

Galway 16:53 | Felix Somary | 0.75pt e/w at 14/1, bet365, 5 places

FELIX SOMARY has twice finished third since returning to form, including over this course and distance, and a 5lb claim helps offset top weight. Stall two gives him the chance to preserve energy on the bends, a major advantage in a sixteen-runner Galway handicap. The market has concentrated on the lightly weighted improvers, leaving a dependable place candidate at a double-figure price.

Cladach is the next best at 11/4 after finishing strongly at Gowran and racing from a 3lb lower mark, though stall fifteen makes him short enough. Felix Somary can be vulnerable if asked to lead too soon, so the bet is each-way with five places rather than an outright win play.

VERDICT: Felix Somary, 0.75pt e/w at 14/1, bet365, 5 places. Back only at 12/1 or bigger. Cladach at 11/4 is the next best.

Galway 17:30 | Autumn Gray | 2pt win at 9/2, bet365

AUTUMN GRAY finished only sixth on debut at Naas, but she was the most encouraging of the newcomers and closed from an unhelpful position at 125/1. That run puts her close to Churchill Bond and Lunar Empress on the same piece of form, while her pedigree and the booking of Colin Keane suggest there should be more to come.

Churchill Bond is the next best at 5/2 and has the kinder draw in stall four. She met trouble before finishing ahead of Autumn Gray at Naas, so she is the strongest counterargument. The selection is preferred because the market still allows for a meaningful step forward on only her second start.

VERDICT: Autumn Gray, 2pt win at 9/2, bet365. Back only at 4/1 or bigger. Churchill Bond at 5/2 is the next best.

Galway 18:00 | Loingseoir | 2pt win at 7/2, bet365

LOINGSEOIR may be ten, but his recent figures are anything but tired. He has repeatedly run well in competitive handicaps, was third at Galway in July and is only 1lb above his last winning mark. Five of his wins have come on soft or heavy ground, and Colin Keane can exploit stall three to give him a ground-saving trip.

San Aer is the next best at 9/4 and finished narrowly in front of Loingseoir here in July. He deserves to head the market, but his higher draw and shorter price make the old course specialist the better bet. Rhythm King is dangerous if revived by the soft ground, although his recent form demands faith.

VERDICT: Loingseoir, 2pt win at 7/2, bet365. Back only at 3/1 or bigger. San Aer at 9/4 is the next best.

Galway 18:30 | Navy Waters | 0.75pt e/w at 12/1, Sky Bet, 4 places

NAVY WATERS arrives after successive thirds over a mile and a half, including a Curragh effort in which she kept finding to the line. She has already run well at Galway, acts with cut and is drawn three, so Billy Lee can secure a prominent, economical passage. Her official rating leaves work to do with Beset and Snapretend, but her current consistency gives her a far stronger place chance than 12/1 implies.

Beset is the next best at 2/1. She is a proven Listed winner on testing ground and sets the class standard, though she returns from 127 days off in a deep field. Navy Waters needs a career best to win, which is why the recommended route is each-way with four verified places.

VERDICT: Navy Waters, 0.75pt e/w at 12/1, Sky Bet, 4 places. Back only at 11/1 or bigger. Beset at 2/1 is the next best.

Galway 19:00 | Belle Nuit | 2pt win at 6/1, bet365

BELLE NUIT has done most of her best work at Galway and shaped better than fourth place suggests here in July after a slow break and a troubled passage. She races from stall two, carries just 8st 12lb before any claim and should be comfortable on soft ground. Her mark remains workable if she gets a cleaner run through the race.

Party Dress is the next best at 9/2 and has been running steadily without finding much late. Faro Island is respected but has less margin at the head of the market. Belle Nuit is not bombproof after one win from fourteen starts, yet the course, draw and price combine to make her the attractive risk.

VERDICT: Belle Nuit, 2pt win at 6/1, bet365. Back only at 6/1 or bigger. Party Dress at 9/2 is the next best.

Galway 19:30 | Porters Corner | 3pt win at 7/4, bet365

PORTERS CORNER has improved on both starts, finishing third at the Curragh before being denied by only a nose over this course and distance. She travelled smoothly around Galway and stayed the trip, valuable experience for a lightly raced filly. Paddy Twomey and Billy Lee should have more improvement to draw from her on start three.

Zadawa is the next best at 9/2 after three solid placed runs, while I Hope You Dance has a similarly reliable profile. The main concern is the short price in a seventeen-runner maiden, but Porters Corner owns the strongest combination of course form, progression and tactical position.

VERDICT: Porters Corner, 3pt win at 7/4, bet365. Back only at 6/4 or bigger. Zadawa at 9/2 is the next best.

Best bets of the day

City Of Gold is the NAP because his Galway form has already been strengthened at Pattern level and the extended mile should draw out further improvement. Porters Corner is the next best after missing by only a nose over course and distance. Felix Somary is the best handicap value, while Navy Waters offers the most attractive route into the feature.
