Doncaster is comfortably the strongest eligible British and Irish meeting, with the Group 2 Park Hill and May Hill Stakes supported by three Class 2 contests on the opening day of the St Leger Festival. The long, galloping straight and a surface with some ease should reward horses that can travel efficiently and sustain their effort.
The current going is good to soft, good in places, with a GoingStick reading of 6.1 and sunny intervals forecast. There are 86 declared runners and 83 active runners after Bayside, Kach Above and Eniac were withdrawn. The declarations and conditions were cross-checked with the Racing Post Doncaster racecard, Racing TV Doncaster racecards and At The Races Doncaster card. Prices and place terms were checked on the live Oddschecker Doncaster markets at 08:10 BST. Late withdrawals can change both.
The wider horse-racing tips hub explains how the daily card fits BetOwl's coverage, while the tips methodology sets out the evidence and price discipline behind each selection. Settled performance is recorded separately in the horse-racing tips results.

Doncaster 13:15 | Downonmainstreet | 0.75pt e/w at 12/1, bet365, 4 places
DOWNONMAINSTREET has taken a marked step forward since being dropped to sprinting, winning at Chepstow and Ffos Las with enough resolution to suggest a five-pound rise is manageable. She led at Chepstow but also tracked the pace at Ffos Las, so David Probert has options from stall four in a race containing plenty of early speed.
Speed of Sound is the next best at 5/2 after finishing third in a valuable York nursery on good-to-soft ground. Sexy Chick has the highest performance figure but must concede fifteen pounds to the selection. Four verified places make 12/1 the sensible each-way route on a filly whose recent progress may not yet be complete.
VERDICT: Downonmainstreet, 0.75pt e/w at 12/1, bet365, 4 places. Back only at 11/1 or bigger. Speed of Sound at 5/2 is the next best.
Doncaster 13:50 | God Given Talent | 1pt e/w at 15/2, bet365, 4 places
GOD GIVEN TALENT was much better than fourth place suggests in the valuable York sales race. Slowly away and boxed in when the leaders began to quicken, he found room late and finished strongly to be beaten only a length. William Haggas is operating at 24 per cent in the current fortnight, and the return to this slightly longer six-furlong trip gives the colt time to organise his challenge.
Night In Vegas is the next best at 5/4 and sets the standard after three wins and two Group 2 efforts from five starts. He is the likeliest winner but is short enough under a penalty in a field of seventeen. God Given Talent has already survived a rougher passage in a comparable contest, so 15/2 with four verified places offers the better risk-reward balance.
VERDICT: God Given Talent, 1pt e/w at 15/2, bet365, 4 places. Back only at 7/1 or bigger. Night In Vegas at 5/4 is the next best.
Doncaster 14:25 | Knights Charge | 2pt win at 7/2, William Hill
KNIGHTS CHARGE returns with two emphatic wins over this distance, including one on good-to-soft ground at Nottingham. He travelled behind the pace before drawing clear there, and his low draw gives Shane Foley the chance to repeat that economical trip. An opening mark of 91 asks a new question, but this lightly raced three-year-old has improved each time he has been asked to stretch beyond a mile.
Bourbon Blues is the next best at 5/1 and brings the strongest established figures after placing at Goodwood and York. He has not won in six starts, however, and must concede ten pounds to the selection. Knights Charge is returning from 114 days off, but 7/2 is fair compensation for the fitness question and his greater scope for improvement.
VERDICT: Knights Charge, 2pt win at 7/2, William Hill. Back only at 3/1 or bigger. Bourbon Blues at 5/1 is the next best.
Doncaster 15:00 | Nyra | 0.5pt e/w at 16/1, William Hill, 3 places
NYRA has been placed at Group level on her last six completed starts and shaped at Cork as though a stronger stamina test would help. She moved into the lead over a mile and a half before being caught on the line, while her Curragh third came over a trip that was likely sharp enough. The extended fourteen furlongs should allow J M Sheridan to use that stamina gradually.
Danielle is the next best at 5/1 and owns the best performance and speed figures, as well as a win and two placed efforts at Doncaster. Her flat sixth at Goodwood is the reservation, while Nyra arrives at a much bigger price despite a notably consistent Group-race profile. The 16/1 each-way recommendation uses the three verified places without overstating her win chance.
VERDICT: Nyra, 0.5pt e/w at 16/1, William Hill, 3 places. Back only at 16/1 or bigger. Danielle at 5/1 is the next best.
Doncaster 15:35 | Scommessa Sicura | 2pt win at 13/2, Ladbrokes
SCOMMESSA SICURA has never finished outside the first two in five starts and lost a Listed race at Salisbury only in the final strides. The step back to a mile should suit a filly who can sustain a gallop, and Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy arrive in strong recent form. Her official mark of 97 is also supported by the highest performance figure in this field.
Musical Times is the next best at 15/8 after winning both starts, the latest without being asked for a serious effort. She could improve sharply, but this is a much deeper examination after seventy days away. Scommessa Sicura has the stronger public evidence and 13/2 gives her consistency more room than the favourite offers.
VERDICT: Scommessa Sicura, 2pt win at 13/2, Ladbrokes. Back only at 11/2 or bigger. Musical Times at 15/8 is the next best.
Doncaster 16:10 | Al Wathba | 3pt win at 7/4, bet365
AL WATHBA made all and drew clear at Kempton fifteen days ago, confirming the promise of two earlier seconds. He has the best performance and speed figures in the field, and stall two should let William Buick dictate rather than become involved in a needless early contest. The six-runner field also reduces the risk of traffic when the race quickens.
Waasil is the next best at 5/2 after successive wins at Beverley and Newbury, with Karl Burke in excellent recent form. He has more weight to find with Al Wathba on the figures and returns from a longer break. The favourite is short, but 7/4 still supports the strongest combination of recent improvement, pace position and rider booking.
VERDICT: Al Wathba, 3pt win at 7/4, bet365. Back only at 6/4 or bigger. Waasil at 5/2 is the next best.
Doncaster 16:45 | Rafe's Da Man | 2pt win at 13/2, William Hill
RAFE'S DA MAN improved through the summer and won a stronger Goodwood nursery with a well-timed prominent ride. He travelled as the likeliest winner before taking over inside the final furlong and still has only four starts behind him. Stall three and Ryan Moore should help him secure another efficient position on this straight course.
Undiscovered is the next best at 5/2 and is respected after two wins before being outclassed in the Vintage Stakes. He must concede two pounds and is much shorter than Rafe's Da Man, whose Goodwood success came in a Class 2 handicap. The Richard Hannon yard is quiet, but 13/2 compensates for that concern and the rise in weight.
VERDICT: Rafe's Da Man, 2pt win at 13/2, William Hill. Back only at 11/2 or bigger. Undiscovered at 5/2 is the next best.
Doncaster 17:20 | Devil's Peak | 3pt win at 9/4, William Hill
DEVIL'S PEAK drops back from the Melrose after finishing sixth over a mile and six furlongs, where he moved into contention before the extra distance found him out. His previous Newbury win and Goodwood second came around today's trip, and John and Thady Gosden have been striking at 33 per cent over the current fortnight. William Buick can deliver him late from stall four.
Masterinthewoods is the next best at 11/2 after finishing second on three successive starts. His consistency is attractive, though a mark of 82 and top weight leave less room for progress than the selection appears to possess. The return to twelve furlongs, strong stable form and 9/4 price make Devil's Peak the most dependable win proposition on the card.
VERDICT: Devil's Peak, 3pt win at 9/4, William Hill. Back only at 2/1 or bigger. Masterinthewoods at 11/2 is the next best.
Best bets of the day
Al Wathba is the NAP because his Kempton success, tactical position and leading figures form the card's cleanest case. Knights Charge is the next best as a progressive ten-furlong winner whose low draw can offset the fitness uncertainty. Downonmainstreet, God Given Talent and Nyra provide the each-way value at prices supported by verified place terms.
