Sandown is the owner's fixed Daily Dossier meeting for this production date. The normal prestige-first audit placed Thirsk first because of its Class 2 feature, Goodwood second as the opening day of its recognised August Bank Holiday fixture, and Sandown third. The override therefore changes the production course, not the audit result. The Racing Post card and Jockey Club fixture page confirm today's six-race programme.

The going is Good, the weather is overcast and the stalls are on the far side for the sprints, with the remainder on the inside. Glen Nevis, Perfect Ruler and Dovecote are non-runners, leaving 50 active runners after the 09:33 Europe/London declaration refresh. Prices and place terms were checked on the live Oddschecker grids at 09:08 Europe/London.

Readers can compare the card with BetOwl's live racecards, check the mechanics of the three value selections in the each-way betting guide, and review the site's responsible gambling information before staking.

Sandown 2:25 | Holi Scarlett | 0.5pt e/w at 20/1, 3 places

NEXT BEST: Innichen

A downhill five furlongs puts a premium on balance and tactical speed. Innichen is the obvious market horse, but his York failure eight days ago is too recent to ignore. Sky Secret has carried his form into stronger nurseries without quite finishing the job, while Undercover Affair has to settle better. Holi Scarlett arrives from the strongest value line. Her third at Newmarket was achieved from out of the handicap in a Class 2 and she is only 4lb higher than for her Nottingham win. Stall eight is not ideal, yet her ability to finish rather than merely burn off rivals is useful on Sandown's stiff final climb.

Her Newmarket third came in a Class 2 nursery off 68, and she races here from 72 with only 8st 10lb. That is a stronger recent piece of form than the price implies, while a return to five furlongs should let Sean Levey use her finishing speed.

VERDICT: Holi Scarlett, 0.5pt e/w at 20/1, 3 places. Minimum acceptable price 16/1. Innichen is the principal danger but is not a second official bet.

Sandown 3:00 | South Shore | 3pt win at 85/40

NEXT BEST: Good Earth

South Shore has become expensive to oppose. He won twice before completing a sequence of four runner-up finishes, the latest two by less than a length. Good Earth is better treated than he was earlier in the summer and is the danger if the favourite feels Monday's Brighton effort. Duskaura is tempting at a large price on her old Listed efforts, while Hint Of Humour is consistent, but South Shore has the clearest current case and enough tactical pace to secure position from stall two.

He has finished first or second on each of his last six starts and was caught only on the line at Windsor before another solid second at Brighton. The four-day turnaround is the objection, but he is thriving and remains tactically straightforward.

VERDICT: South Shore, 3pt win at 85/40. Minimum acceptable price 7/4. Good Earth is the principal danger but is not a second official bet.

Sandown 3:35 | Thunder Home | 2pt win at 4/1

NEXT BEST: Netherstream

This maiden contains several well-bred unknowns, so the market deserves respect without being obeyed. Algaihabane represents powerful connections but must improve from his debut seventh. Netherstream shaped well when third first time out and New Oxford can progress. Thunder Home supplies the solid form: he has an official mark of 85, improved from seventh to fifth to second and should be suited by a properly run seven furlongs. At 4/1 he is preferred to paying for reputation.

His 85 rating is the strongest established level in the maiden and his latest second suggests seven furlongs is within range. Several rivals are less exposed, but they must still improve past a colt who has already shown the required standard.

VERDICT: Thunder Home, 2pt win at 4/1. Minimum acceptable price 7/2. Netherstream is the principal danger but is not a second official bet.

Sandown 4:10 | Hungarian | 0.5pt e/w at 16/1, 2 places

NEXT BEST: Drymee

Drymee is progressive and a worthy favourite after two wins and a third, but 6/4 leaves little room for error. Thursday Girl has finished first or second in five consecutive starts and is the reliable danger. Hungarian is the anomaly. He won when last seen, his performance figure is 9lb above Drymee, and he has already shown that a mile on good ground is suitable. Top weight is a proper concern, but the 16/1 compensates and makes the each-way shape preferable to taking a short price about the favourite.

He returned from a break with a win and the Racing API performance figure of 92 is clear of this field. Top weight and a six-week absence explain some of the price, but neither justifies a quote this large for a last-time-out winner who is proven at a mile.

VERDICT: Hungarian, 0.5pt e/w at 16/1, 2 places. Minimum acceptable price 14/1. Drymee is the principal danger but is not a second official bet.

Sandown 4:45 | Box Clever | 2pt win at 4/1

NEXT BEST: Dark Rosa

The withdrawal of Perfect Ruler reduces this to seven and removes one recent winner. Box Clever now has a clean route from stall one and returns seven days after scoring. Dark Rosa is closely matched on figures and should be involved, while Poets Praise is less exposed than most but has yet to make the market confidence look justified. Box Clever is carrying plenty of weight, although proven current wellbeing is valuable in a Class 5 fillies' handicap where several rivals are trying to recover old form.

She won seven days ago, has the inside draw and shares the highest performance figure in the field. The quick return and 10st 1lb demand respect, yet this is a moderate race and her current form is the most persuasive evidence available.

VERDICT: Box Clever, 2pt win at 4/1. Minimum acceptable price 7/2. Dark Rosa is the principal danger but is not a second official bet.

Sandown 5:20 | Carnival Day | 0.75pt e/w at 12/1, 3 places

NEXT BEST: Galyx

Galyx and Sovereign View set the market standard, but neither looks bombproof. Galyx has the best speed figure and the inside draw; Sovereign View has been consistent without winning. Carnival Day is 5lb below Galyx on the performance numbers but receives 5lb and has repeatedly shaped as though this course and distance will suit. The concern is a losing sequence, not a collapse in ability. At 12/1 with three places, that distinction matters and creates the final value bet on the card.

His recent figures of 85 and 87 sit well against an official mark of 75, and this ten-furlong test is suitable. He has not won lately, but the market has overreacted to that sequence when his current level gives him a realistic place and win chance.

VERDICT: Carnival Day, 0.75pt e/w at 12/1, 3 places. Minimum acceptable price 10/1. Galyx is the principal danger but is not a second official bet.

Best bets of the day

South Shore is the NAP because his six-race sequence of firsts and seconds gives the portfolio its most dependable base. Thunder Home is the next best at a fair 4/1 in a maiden where his established 85 level matters. Hungarian is the strongest handicap value at 16/1, while Holi Scarlett and Carnival Day complete a three-bet each-way group supported by class, figures and price rather than by quota filling.
