Bellewstown is the principal British or Irish meeting because its eight-race card combines a €30,000 feature handicap, a €25,000 auction maiden and 101 current runners, giving it greater quality and depth than Musselburgh's six-race programme headed by the £20,000 Portobello Cup. The latest Bellewstown card confirms the full programme from 16:20 to 20:02.

NEXT BEST: Star Of Beauty

The opening maiden revolves around whether Karrygrant can finally turn consistency into a first success. He has finished within two lengths on each of his last three starts, notably when pressing on too soon over nine and a half furlongs at Gowran before holding third. The return to a tight mile should let Ben Coen delay the challenge, and an official rating of 79 gives him a clear standard against rivals who either have less form or considerably more to find.

The objection is the price and the fact he has already had eight chances. Star Of Beauty is next best because her Roscommon third came with a peak speed figure and she has twice gone very close in maidens. Mosel can improve markedly for Joseph O'Brien, but her Curragh debut still asks for a large leap. Karrygrant is short enough at 11/8, yet he is the most dependable horse in a race where dependable evidence is scarce.

NEXT BEST: Launch Time

Launch Time deserves respect after winning at Leopardstown and shaping better than seventh at Cork, where he was held up and finished through beaten horses. The market has made him pay for that profile, while Draiocht remains lower in the weights and has returned in good order. He travelled wide at Killarney, then finished strongly for third behind Launch Time at Leopardstown despite again covering ground.

The revised weights and better draw can narrow the gap. Wayne Lordan can keep Draiocht closer to the inside, and the gelding's previous win on softer ground removes concern about a surface with a little ease. He is not bombproof, but 11/2 is a fairer reflection of the risk than the favourite's price. Launch Time is the obvious next best, especially if the pace becomes stronger than expected.

NEXT BEST: Medieval Night

This second division contains several recent placers, but the course evidence pushes me towards Micasso. His July win here came over the same mile from a mark of 46, when he travelled in midfield and produced the best finishing run. Two subsequent efforts over seven furlongs and on the all-weather were disappointing, yet the return to this configuration, plus Seamie Heffernan taking over again, gives a coherent reason for improvement rather than blind forgiveness.

The 9/1 with four places is the key. Medieval Night arrives after a solid Gowran second and is the safer next best, while Perfect Judgement also went close there but has a more awkward draw. Micasso needs to recapture his course form and cannot be treated as a certainty, though his current mark of 51 still leaves him only 5lb above that win. At the price, the risk is properly paid for.

Bellewstown 18:02 | Goal Exceeded | 2pt win at 11/2 (General)

NEXT BEST: Elusive Path

Low draws have an opportunity in the feature handicap and Goal Exceeded is well placed in stall two. He won a competitive Leopardstown handicap from a much-reduced mark in June, then ran to a higher level when fourth at Galway and again at the Curragh. Both defeats showed he remains competitive after the rise, and his Curragh effort was particularly sound because he moved into the argument before being outfinished late.

Elusive Path is the danger. He has only three starts, reached a useful level in maidens and receives the three-year-old allowance, but this is a demanding first handicap against hardened older horses. Zaraahmando has been admirably consistent, although stall 17 threatens another wide, keen passage. Goal Exceeded has fewer tactical complications and 11/2 is enough to make him the bet.

NEXT BEST: Annie Batt

There is no need to force a clever angle in the juvenile sprint. Bit Of A Buzz has reached the frame on his last five starts, including third over this course and distance and second on nursery debut at Down Royal. Dropping back into an auction maiden gives him the strongest established rating, while Gary Carroll can let the speed drawn inside develop before asking him to finish.

Annie Batt is next best on her course second in July, though her Navan effort afterwards was disappointing even allowing for interference at the start. Best Love has a favourable inside draw but has not matched Bit Of A Buzz's level, and the remainder must improve. The favourite is not flashy, but 9/4 is acceptable for the most reliable body of evidence in an eight-runner field.

NEXT BEST: Prairie Girl

The five-furlong handicap is the most tactically interesting race on the card. Harry's Hill arrives after a Curragh win, Prairie Girl has finished strongly in a better race and Bad Boy Rizz is 3lb below the mark from which he ran second at Naas in April. I still prefer Namiid, whose recent record contains a Bellewstown second and a close third in an 18-runner Curragh handicap.

Stall three and Patrick McGettigan's 5lb claim give Namiid the right tools for this sharp test. He can sit close enough without being committed to an early duel, and his mark of 85 is supported by a recent performance rating of 88. Prairie Girl is next best from the inside draw, but she may need the leaders to overdo it. At 5/1, Namiid is the NAP because the price, course fit and tactical position align.

NEXT BEST: Cosmetic

The extra distance should bring improvement from Zadawa. Dermot Weld's filly has progressed through fourth, third and second in three maidens, shaping at Cork as if a longer trip would help when keeping on after being headed. Her Curragh third also carried substance, and she is bred to stay this mile and a half rather than merely endure it.

Cosmetic owns the highest official rating and is the next best. She raced too freely and too prominently at Galway before fading into fourth, so Wayne Lordan may need to settle her more efficiently over the longer distance. Mawhibah is solid but has not yet reached the same level. Zadawa still has to prove the trip, but 3/1 gives enough room to side with the progressive profile.

NEXT BEST: Boxing Great

Boxing Great won a qualified-riders' handicap at Leopardstown and merits favouritism, but he is up in the weights and the finish there fell his way after he was produced late. Day Trader offers more value at 11/2. He returned to form when second in a 17-runner Galway handicap over two miles, finishing strongly after racing just behind the leaders, and the additional furlong here should be a positive.

Finian Maguire is a significant booking in this type of race and can keep Day Trader out of the trouble that often develops on Bellewstown's bends. Boxing Great is the next best and may still improve for his latest win, while Cooley's Mist has to cope with a five-day turnaround after a hard race. Day Trader is the next best of the day, with his Galway run the strongest recent staying evidence at the prices.

Namiid is the NAP because his low draw, 5lb claim, Bellewstown form and Curragh performance give him the cleanest tactical case at a workable 5/1. Day Trader is the next best after his strong Galway second over a staying trip, while Micasso is the best handicap angle because his course-and-distance win is not fully reflected in 9/1 with four places.
