Cork is today's principal meeting. Its seven-race card contains the Group 3 Coolmore Stud Little Big Bear Stakes and the Listed Abergwaun Stakes, giving it two black-type features against Goodwood's single Group 3. Cork 13:50 | Eighteenth Smiles | 1pt e/w at 7/1, General, 3 places

Next best: Williamsburg at 9/2

Experience matters in the opener and Eighteenth Smiles has acquired it in meaningful company. His last two runs produced thirds at Galway and Roscommon, with the Galway effort especially persuasive because he pulled hard, met traffic and still stayed on. The first attempt at a mile should turn that finishing strength into an advantage.

The 7/1 is not based on novelty. He has the best established rating, a low draw and form on ground with ease. Williamsburg is next best after taking a step forward at the Curragh, while Mirren has twice shaped like a winner in waiting. Eighteenth Smiles has to settle, but the price pays for that concern and makes him a proper value play rather than a hopeful outsider.

Cork 14:25 | Dawn Flame | 1pt e/w at 9/1, Bet365, 5 places

Next best: Oppenheimer at 7/2

This is the sort of handicap in which an exposed filly can still be underestimated. Dawn Flame has finished third at Limerick and Gowran before running fourth over Cork's mile last time. She was only three lengths away in that 17-runner race and kept on after being held up, so the longer trip is a logical experiment. Reese Holohan's claim also offsets most of the rise in weight.

The draw in 13 is the obvious difficulty, but a patient ride should prevent her from being trapped wide throughout. Oppenheimer is next best from stall two and his recent fourth suggests the market is right to respect him. Glamazon and Arizona Star have solid place claims, yet 9/1 with five places gives Dawn Flame the more attractive risk-to-reward balance.

Cork 15:00 | Bamako Beach | 3pt win at 6/4, General

Next best: Benevento at 9/2

Bamako Beach brings a level of form that this field has not matched. He finished only seven and a quarter lengths behind the winner in the Irish 2,000 Guineas before landing a Fairyhouse maiden over seven furlongs with authority. An official mark of 102 leaves him clear at the weights and the return to this trip looks ideal.

Benevento is next best after winning at Gowran and has the race fitness to punish any shortfall, while Res Ipsa remains progressive. Bamako Beach still needs to confirm that maiden success against seasoned rivals, but 6/4 is a fair price for the horse with the strongest class evidence and the cleanest trip profile.

Cork 15:30 | Magny Cours | 2pt win at 6/1, General

Next best: Catalina Delcarpio at 5/1

The market has not fully rewarded Magny Cours for her Leopardstown second in this grade. She travelled into that seven-furlong Group 3 and finished only behind a race-fit rival, recording the strongest recent performance in this field. Her subsequent Irish 1,000 Guineas run came over a mile and can be forgiven; this return to seven furlongs is much more suitable.

Catalina Delcarpio is next best on her Listed mile win and Ribblesdale third, although dropping sharply in distance after an Ascot defeat creates its own question. Dancing Saxon is thriving but now meets deeper opposition. At 6/1, Magny Cours has both the form and price to merit a win bet.

Cork 16:05 | Brussels | 2pt win at 4/1, Sky Bet and Paddy Power

Next best: Kendall Roy at 9/2

The Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint runner-up is hiding in plain sight. Brussels also finished second in the Middle Park and Cornwallis last year, and his latest Goodwood defeat came in a stronger Group 2 over six furlongs. Dropping to Listed company and returning to a bare five furlongs should let that old speed become decisive.

Kendall Roy is next best because he owns current five-furlong form and carries the race's highest rating, while Gazelle d'Or has twice finished second in useful sprints. Brussels must show that his juvenile spark remains, but 4/1 is generous enough for the class drop and tactical setup. He is the next best of the day behind the NAP.

Cork 16:40 | Grande Cuvee | 2pt win at 5/1, General

Next best: Inform at 7/2

Grande Cuvee has already built the most reliable racecourse profile in this maiden. She finished third at Navan before chasing home the winner over five furlongs at Dundalk, where she recovered from drifting left at the start and kept on for second. The extra furlong should suit that finishing style, while stall four gives Seamie Heffernan options close to the likely pace.

Inform is next best from stall two for the G M Lyons yard, although she must translate pedigree and market confidence into a first-time performance. Feel Happy has useful course form but is drawn wide. Grande Cuvee brings two solid runs, a workable draw and a 5/1 price that compensates for the absence of a previous six-furlong attempt.

Cork 17:15 | Arch Enemy | 0.5pt e/w at 18/1, Ladbrokes, 5 places

Next best: Preparations at 13/2

There is a sizeable draw problem to solve, but Arch Enemy is priced as if her Galway fifth never happened. She had already won at Navan and Killarney before finishing only three and three-quarter lengths away in a 16-runner handicap at Galway, where she was boxed in and finished strongly. Back at twelve furlongs after a month off, she retains the stamina and current mark to play a major part.

Stall 20 demands patience from Sam Coen, whose claim helps at the top of the weights. Preparations is next best after a recent maiden win and has a better draw, while Glittering Gem remains consistent. The 18/1 with five places about Arch Enemy is the card's most substantial handicap value, provided she is covered up rather than asked to race wide.

Best bets of the day

Bamako Beach is the NAP because his Irish 2,000 Guineas run and decisive Fairyhouse win give him the strongest class evidence on the card at 6/4. Brussels is the next best of the day after dropping from Group 2 company into a Listed five-furlong race at 4/1. Arch Enemy is the most attractive handicap price: the 18/1 underestimates a strong Galway finish after back-to-back wins.
