Salisbury supplies the strongest British card on an ordinary Thursday, with the Class 2 Joan Snow Memorial Conditions Stakes supported by three Class 3 juvenile races and a competitive handicap programme. The uphill finish and good-to-soft ground place a premium on balance, patience and proven resolution.
There are 89 active runners across eight races after Forest Bay, Napa and Kimeko Glory were withdrawn. Prices and active fields were checked across the live Oddschecker grids at 08:09 BST. The Racing Post card, Sporting Life meeting page and official Salisbury programme provide the wider meeting context.

Salisbury 13:30 | Somerton | 3pt win at 15/8, General
NEXT BEST: Yamana
Somerton brings the most persuasive racecourse evidence into a novice dominated by potential. He has twice finished third, first at Sandown and then over this trip on soft ground at Goodwood, where he rallied after losing his position. That ability to reorganise under pressure is valuable against a short-priced newcomer.
Yamana is the strongest alternative at 6/4. She cost 1.5 million guineas, represents a stable with an excellent record in this race and is bred to be smart, but the current price assumes plenty before she has faced a starter. Somerton offers proven stamina, an official mark of 82 and a better value balance at 15/8.
VERDICT: Somerton, 3pt win at 15/8, General. Back only at 7/4 or bigger; below that price, the value margin is gone.
Salisbury 14:04 | Gold Army | 3pt win at 9/4, General
NEXT BEST: Meticulously
Gold Army has improved through two starts and was caught only late after making the running over seven furlongs at Kempton. The way he travelled and kept fighting marks him as a reliable reference point in a race containing several newcomers, while stall three should allow Lewis Edmunds to secure a clean early position.
Meticulously is the obvious danger at 5/4 after useful form in stronger company, but he was last of seven at Ascot most recently and his price leaves little room for another flat effort. Gold Army has the stronger recent trajectory and 9/4 fairly rewards the risk that one of the debutants is above average.
VERDICT: Gold Army, 3pt win at 9/4, General. Back only at 2/1 or bigger; below that price, the value margin is gone.
Salisbury 14:39 | Vulcanist | 2pt win at 10/3, General
NEXT BEST: Kamaal
Vulcanist is an unraced colt, but this is a calculated debut selection rather than a pedigree guess. Ralph Beckett arrives at his local track in strong form, Hector Crouch rides, and the market has remained solid around a runner whose stable knows exactly what is required in Salisbury autumn maidens.
Kamaal is the next best at 5/2 because his mark of 87 sets the public standard, although he has now had four opportunities and was unable to finish off his race at Lingfield. Moon Rock should improve and Showmaster is another respected newcomer. Vulcanist gets the vote at 10/3, a price that still pays for the lack of racecourse evidence.
VERDICT: Vulcanist, 2pt win at 10/3, General. Back only at 3/1 or bigger; below that price, the value margin is gone.
Salisbury 15:14 | Dance A Jig | 2pt win at 5/1, General
NEXT BEST: Social Symbol
Dance A Jig returned to form when third on soft ground at Ayr, forcing the pace and holding on after being challenged. His earlier Haydock win was decisive, and the return to six furlongs gives Ralph Beckett scope to use that speed without asking him to repeat the sharp five-furlong test of York.
Social Symbol is the strongest alternative at 5/4 and owns a one-pound ratings edge, but he has been beaten four times since his debut win. This is now a five-runner race after Napa came out, so the recommendation is win only. Dance A Jig has the current form, ground evidence and 5/1 price to make that route worthwhile.
VERDICT: Dance A Jig, 2pt win at 5/1, General. Back only at 9/2 or bigger; below that price, the value margin is gone.
Salisbury 15:49 | Supreme King | 1pt e/w at 10/1, General, 4 places
NEXT BEST: Brosay
Supreme King is a course-and-distance winner who has twice confirmed his wellbeing since that success. He stayed on for third here in September, then again made the frame at Chester despite being asked to do too much too soon on heavy ground. A return to a more measured ride can unlock another competitive run.
Brosay is the next best at 11/4 after two strong seconds at Goodwood, but that progress is fully reflected in a short price for a fourteen-runner sprint. Colin Keane takes over on Supreme King and four places are available at 10/1, making the older horse the better blend of course evidence and value.
VERDICT: Supreme King, 1pt e/w at 10/1, General, 4 places. Back only at 9/1 or bigger; below that price, the value margin is gone.
Salisbury 16:24 | Arbaawy | 1pt e/w at 17/2, bet365, 4 places
NEXT BEST: Bnaider
Arbaawy has been running over a mile, but his earlier Sandown effort and racing style suggest this return to ten furlongs can suit. He is proven on good to soft, sits well ahead of his official mark on the private form assessment and gets Colin Keane from a workable middle draw.
Bnaider is the next best at 7/4 after an emphatic Haydock win on this ground. He has been absent for 132 days and must prove ready from a 7lb higher mark, which makes his price demanding in a thirteen-runner handicap. Arbaawy offers a wider margin at 17/2, with four places verified at bet365.
VERDICT: Arbaawy, 1pt e/w at 17/2, bet365, 4 places. Back only at 8/1 or bigger; below that price, the value margin is gone.
Salisbury 16:55 | Sergei Breeze | 0.75pt e/w at 12/1, Unibet, 4 places
NEXT BEST: Sintra
Sergei Breeze has improved with every completed start this year, progressing from fourth to third before staying on for second over ten furlongs at Sandown. That latest run came from off the pace and showed he can keep finding when the race becomes a test, while Ben Ffrench Davis removes 5lb from a useful inside draw.
Sintra is the strongest alternative at 11/10 after a creditable Class 2 fourth at Doncaster and a drop into Class 4 company. He is the likeliest winner, but his price has contracted sharply. Sergei Breeze is much less exposed than most of the field and 12/1 with four Unibet places properly rewards the remaining questions.
VERDICT: Sergei Breeze, 0.75pt e/w at 12/1, Unibet, 4 places. Back only at 11/1 or bigger; below that price, the value margin is gone.
Salisbury 17:25 | Roc de Fer | 2pt win at 7/2, General
NEXT BEST: Pyleates
Roc de Fer won consecutive handicaps before being caught late at Musselburgh, and the extra furlong here should play to the stamina he showed through that sequence. Sir Mark Prescott has given him time to recover, while Luke Morris can keep him close enough to the pace before the long uphill finish.
Pyleates is the next best at 12/1 after a determined two-mile win and an earlier second over this trip, though the 75-day break introduces a fitness question. Dialstone is progressive but tackles an extra half-mile from a new mark. Roc de Fer has the best combination of recent wins, proven stamina and a backable 7/2.
VERDICT: Roc de Fer, 2pt win at 7/2, General. Back only at 10/3 or bigger; below that price, the value margin is gone.
Best bets of the day
Gold Army at 9/4 is the NAP because his progressive two-run profile, tactical speed and proven seven-furlong stamina give him the most dependable form base among the shorter prices. Supreme King at 10/1 is the next best after a course-and-distance win and two subsequent placed efforts. Sergei Breeze is the card's most progressive longer-priced runner, while Somerton brings the strongest public evidence into the opener.
