Day two of Listowel's seven-day Harvest Festival moves from a two-year-old mile maiden to the EUR50,000 John McGuire Handicap and a fourteen-furlong finale. The card has eight races. We have kept the short-priced anchors to two races and used place protection where a runner's form and the bookmaker terms justify it.

The latest meeting report was yielding, yielding to soft in places. 115 active runners were reconciled against the numbered Racing Post fields; reserves were excluded and Michinaga was a confirmed non-runner. NEXT BEST: Dawnmore

Williamsburg brings three progressively better runs, most recently a close third at Cork over this mile on yielding ground. The Curragh fourth over six furlongs also shows that he can finish a race after being asked to quicken. Dawnmore was a half-length second at Naas four days ago and is a real threat, but must prove the extra furlong suits after doing his best work at seven. 5/2 with Bet365 and William Hill is enough to take Williamsburg as a three-point win bet. Dawnmore is next best at 2/1.

NEXT BEST: Wegotogether

Majestic King was denied a run before finishing a one-length second at Gowran over a mile on yielding ground. His previous Curragh and Leopardstown efforts were disappointing, so this is not a consistency play, but the return to a mile and the inside draw give him a route to reproduce the latest run. 7/2 with Bet365 and William Hill is a two-point win bet. Wegotogether, a Bellewstown mile winner who was fourth at Cork last time, is next best at 4/1. Her stable has been quiet, which tempers the case.

NEXT BEST: Keogie

Keogie has the best official mark and was beaten only narrowly over seven furlongs at Gowran last time. His earlier mile run, however, ended in a marked fade. Casamorati offers a fuller price for this mile: a short-head Galway second on yielding to soft was followed by a third there on soft 13 days ago. His seven-pound claiming rider reduces the weight, while Joseph O'Brien's yard has been winning. 6/1 with Bet365, William Hill and Boyle Sports is a two-point win bet, with Keogie next best at 2/1.

NEXT BEST: Resurgence

Royal Bones has progressed from sixth to second to third, with the second coming at Galway on yielding ground. He was again close to the pace at Navan over ten furlongs and drops back to nine here. The wide draw is a genuine obstacle, and he has yet to win, but 11/2 with Bet365 and William Hill is a better risk-reward balance than the shorter market leaders. Resurgence, a close Navan second after a long absence, is next best at 10/3.

VERDICT: Royal Bones, 2pt win at 11/2, Bet365 and William Hill. Back only at 9/2 or bigger; Resurgence is the next best at 10/3.

Listowel 15:30 | Love Orchid | 1pt e/w at 10/1, Bet365, 4 places

NEXT BEST: Wie Wunderbar

Love Orchid finished second at Tramore over twelve furlongs and third at Navan over fourteen on her last two runs. She was held up on both occasions before making ground late, evidence that the return to this trip is workable if the pace is honest. She has not won and the trainer is in a quiet spell, so the stake stays at 1pt each way at 10/1 with Bet365, four places. Wie Wunderbar is the next best at 5/2 after a recent win, but the price is much tighter in a competitive handicap.

VERDICT: Love Orchid, 1pt e/w at 10/1, Bet365, 4 places. Back only at 8/1 or bigger; Wie Wunderbar is the next best at 5/2.

NEXT BEST: Handani

The feature market is led by Handani, whose Navan win was decisive, but he is short enough at 11/4 in a deep handicap. Day Trader finished second at Galway over twelve furlongs on yielding to soft, then repeated the placing over two miles at Navan. That range gives confidence in stamina, though he must convert a late run into a win and is not the top-rated horse. 9/1 with William Hill, four places supports a measured one-point each-way bet. Handani remains next best.

VERDICT: Day Trader, 1pt e/w at 9/1, William Hill, 4 places. Back only at 7/1 or bigger; Handani is the next best at 11/4.

NEXT BEST: Glowing Account

The Austrian improved markedly from a debut seventh to a close Curragh second, making rapid late ground over ten furlongs. This extra two furlongs is not proved, but the manner of that finish makes it a reasonable test rather than a leap of faith. His two-run profile is also less exposed than Teoest's. 6/4 with William Hill and Boyle Sports is the NAP and a three-point win bet. Glowing Account is next best at 7/1 after a Killarney third over a longer trip, though he must be more effective early.

NEXT BEST: Cooley's Mist

Louiescall was third at Cork over twelve furlongs on yielding ground last month and has also won over hurdles at Tramore this summer. His Flat stamina at fourteen furlongs still has to be established, but the combination of a seven-pound claim and 10/1 with Bet365, William Hill and Coral, four places makes a one-point each-way bet worthwhile. Cooley's Mist is next best at 9/2, having won at Leopardstown over thirteen furlongs and finished second over the same trip last time. He is the more straightforward form choice, but offered at less than half the price.

VERDICT: Louiescall, 1pt e/w at 10/1, Bet365, William Hill and Coral, 4 places. Back only at 8/1 or bigger; Cooley's Mist is the next best at 9/2.

Best bets of the day

The Austrian is the NAP because his Curragh second is the strongest recent maiden evidence and the longer trip is supported by his finish. Williamsburg is the next best of the day, bringing proven mile form in the opener. The feature-race each-way case is Day Trader, whose two consecutive Flat seconds give him a solid stamina profile at 9/1 with four places.
