Hamilton asks horses to climb when they would rather coast, and soft ground turns that demand into the evening's governing fact. Battle Fever has already shown that a big field and an easy surface do not blunt his finish. If he can sit in Harley's slipstream rather than fight the hill too soon, the feature should be his to lose.
Hamilton is the day's principal meeting because the official fixture is headed by the Class 2 Hamilton Park Two-Year-Old Series Final, the strongest recognised feature across the current British and Irish cards. Kempton is the closest alternative with two Class 3 novice and maiden contests, but neither has the feature status or prize level of Hamilton's final. Bath's best race is a Class 4 handicap, while Navan stages no Pattern or Listed event.
The seven races run from 16:50 to 19:50. The going is Soft, with mostly cloudy conditions and further showers possible around racing. Perryston and Dubai Venture are non-runners, leaving 68 active runners. The current declarations and going were cross-checked against the Racing Post Hamilton card and Racing TV Hamilton racecards. Every active Oddschecker grid was inspected at 09:34 BST, including each bookmaker cell and the displayed place terms. Prices are a snapshot and can move before the off.
The best value is not confined to the feature. Big Apple Jack has repeatedly finished as though a strongly run six furlongs is within reach, while Thunderstorm Katie and Yaaser both have course or soft-ground evidence that gives their each-way cases a foundation. Clocker is the other horse with genuine star quality on this card, but her first attempt on soft ground over thirteen furlongs stops her displacing Battle Fever at the top of the sheet.

Hamilton 16:50 | Royal Strike | 3pt win at 9/4, General
Next best: Sod Hall Lane at 4/5
Sod Hall Lane owns the standout single performance after finishing second on debut, but a 4/5 quote demands that he repeat it on softer ground. Royal Strike offers a different bargain. He has already contested two six-furlong races, finishing fourth at Newcastle before improving to third in an eleven-runner Thirsk maiden. The drop to five furlongs is a question, yet Hamilton's climb and soft surface should make this less of a speed test than the bare distance suggests. Royal Strike has travelled near the pace in both starts and brings an official rating of 75, while stall two gives Clifford Lee a direct route behind the likely leader. Sod Hall Lane may simply be the fastest horse, so this is a price-led play rather than opposition for its own sake. At 9/4, Royal Strike is being paid to use his greater race experience and six-furlong strength against an odds-on rival still asked to confirm one run.
Verdict: Royal Strike, 3pt win at 9/4, General. Minimum 2/1. Sod Hall Lane is the principal alternative.
Hamilton 17:20 | Big Apple Jack | 1pt e/w at 7/1, General, 4 places
Next best: White Umbrella at 15/2
Big Apple Jack has been threatening to win one of these all summer. He was beaten only a length and a quarter at Pontefract, ran fourth at Southwell despite being badly hampered, then came from the pack to snatch second at Carlisle on good to soft ground. That sequence says more than his bare mark of 57. The four-year-old keeps finishing his races, and stall two should let Billy Garritty conserve ground before looking for daylight. White Umbrella is the principal danger after winning at Ayr two starts ago and then finishing only a length and a half away from the rear at Newcastle. Big Apple Jack still has to turn repeated promise into a win, which is precisely why the each-way structure matters. Four verified places at 7/1 cover the strongest part of his profile without pretending his late style is risk-free.
Verdict: Big Apple Jack, 1pt e/w at 7/1, General, 4 places. Minimum 7/1. White Umbrella is the principal alternative.
Hamilton 17:50 | Clocker | 3pt win at 5/2, Ladbrokes and Coral
Next best: Perseus Way at 11/4
Clocker has learned quickly. Her sequence of fourth, sixth, first, second and first includes a front-running Hamilton success over the extended eleven furlongs and a comfortable Ripon win over a mile and a half last time. A 3lb rise to 68 asks for progress, but the extra furlong is more likely to help than hinder. Perseus Way is the serious rival because he won at this course over today's trip in June and has deeper soft-ground experience. Clocker, however, receives 12lb from him and may control the race from the front rather than surrendering that advantage in a stop-start contest. Soft ground is the unproven part of Clocker's case, so 5/2 is the point at which her upward curve compensates for the surface doubt. Ebony Maw supplies a separate value angle: he won over thirteen furlongs in July, finished third here last month and had previously made the frame over soft ground at Ayr.
Verdict: Clocker, 3pt win at 5/2, Ladbrokes and Coral. Minimum 9/4. Perseus Way is the principal alternative. Ebony Maw, 0.75pt e/w at 11/1, General, 3 places, is also advised independently at a minimum of 11/1.
Hamilton 18:20 | Battle Fever | 3pt win at 11/10, General
Next best: Harley at 11/4
Battle Fever brings the card's strongest recent form into its best race. He won a Thirsk novice, then finished second in a twenty-runner York contest on good to soft ground, producing a performance rating of 94. An opening nursery mark of 88 is exacting, but it is grounded in form that none of these has matched. Harley is the danger because he made all over this course and distance last month and receives 10lb. Battle Fever has already raced here, starts from stall one and should be able to follow Harley without wasting ground. That tactical map reduces the usual concern about taking a short price in an eight-runner juvenile handicap. The York run came only thirteen days ago and soft ground may ask a little more, yet the evidence is strong enough. At 11/10, Battle Fever is the NAP because class, course experience and the likely pace all point in the same direction.
Verdict: Battle Fever, 3pt win at 11/10, General. Minimum Evens. Harley is the principal alternative.
Hamilton 18:50 | Thunderstorm Katie | 1pt e/w at 15/2, General, 3 places
Next best: Mae Amor at 5/1
Thunderstorm Katie arrives after weaving through a thirteen-runner Ayr field to win over six furlongs. That was no isolated flash: she also finished second over this course and distance in June and was runner-up at Musselburgh two starts before the victory. The handicapper has raised her 7lb, but Lauren Young claims 5lb and knows the mare well. Mae Amor has the best raw recent figure after a fine fourth of twenty-six at Goodwood and is the obvious threat, although she must concede 7lb and prove as effective on the softer surface. Thunderstorm Katie needs the pace to hold up and cannot afford to sit too far back. The 15/2 available with three verified places gives the right protection for a mare whose finishing strength, course record and recent win provide separate reasons to be interested.
Verdict: Thunderstorm Katie, 1pt e/w at 15/2, General, 3 places. Minimum 7/1. Mae Amor is the principal alternative.
Hamilton 19:20 | Yaaser | 1pt e/w at 15/2, General, 3 places
Next best: Tee Aitch Aye at 15/8
Yaaser has not won this season, but his latest Hamilton and Ayr efforts are better than that statistic suggests. He finished a close third over this course and distance, then came from last to finish closest of all when fourth on good to soft ground at Ayr. The five-pound claim lowers his effective burden and his hold-up style softens the damage of stall ten. Tee Aitch Aye is respected after consecutive places over ten furlongs, but the drop to an extended mile is not automatically a benefit and his three Hamilton runs this year have all ended outside the places. A slow start remains Yaaser's recurring danger. At 15/2 with three places, the price recognises that vulnerability while preserving the upside of a race likely to be run hard enough for his late finish.
Verdict: Yaaser, 1pt e/w at 15/2, General, 3 places. Minimum 7/1. Tee Aitch Aye is the principal alternative.
Hamilton 19:50 | Sophiesticate | 2pt win at 9/2, General
Next best: Annandale at 5/2
Sophiesticate arrives after winning readily over thirteen furlongs at Musselburgh, where she travelled in midfield and stayed on strongly to settle the race. The 6lb rise is fair rather than lenient, but the return to Hamilton is positive because she has already won here and her handy racing position should matter on soft ground. Annandale is the serious danger after missing by three-quarters of a length at Carlisle six days ago. He also won over this exact course and distance in June, but his price has contracted to 5/2 and he can leave himself plenty to do. That is a much thinner bargain than the earlier market offered. Sophiesticate has less testing-ground evidence, so the surface remains the objection. At 9/2, however, the market pays for that uncertainty and for the extra weight, while her tactical position and current form give her a cleaner route through the race.
Verdict: Sophiesticate, 2pt win at 9/2, General. Minimum 4/1. Annandale is the principal alternative.
Best bets of the day
Battle Fever is the NAP at 11/10. His York second in a twenty-runner contest, preceding Thirsk win and favourable track position make him the most convincing horse on the card. Clocker, the next best at 5/2, has won two of her last three and can again control a staying handicap from the front.
Big Apple Jack, 1pt e/w at 7/1, General, 4 places, has twice finished second this summer and was badly hampered when fourth between those efforts. Ebony Maw, 0.75pt e/w at 11/1, General, 3 places, combines a thirteen-furlong win, a recent Hamilton third and a soft-ground Ayr placing. Thunderstorm Katie, 1pt e/w at 15/2, General, 3 places, arrives after a thirteen-runner Ayr win and has already finished second over this course and distance. Yaaser, 1pt e/w at 15/2, General, 3 places, was a close third here before finishing fastest on good to soft ground at Ayr.
