Newmarket's Dubai Future Champions Festival opens with the Group 1 Fillies' Mile, a Group 2 Challenge Stakes and a deep supporting programme. The task for a bettor is to separate a strong favourite from a worthwhile price, particularly when lightly raced juveniles are being asked new questions.
The latest meeting-level going report is Good, with a GoingStick reading of 6.5. Some individual race pages still show Good to Firm, so that older description should not be treated as settled. The Met Office forecast includes morning rain and a risk of afternoon showers. Material softening would require another look at the selections. No verified rail-distance adjustment has been identified, and none is assumed in the analysis.
There are eight races, with 95 active runners from 100 declarations at the morning check. Prices were checked in the Oddschecker Newmarket grids at 08:24 BST on Friday 9 October 2026. Non-runners are identified in the Runner Dossier. The race-by-race Next Best entries are separately tracked alternatives, not additional advised bets.

Newmarket 13:15 | In The Black | 2pt win at 4/1, General
Back In The Black: 2pt win at 4/1, General.
The opening sprint is less straightforward than the favourite's position suggests. Flann Sunna, Fast Track and In The Black were separated by very little in the Flying Childers, and a different order at the finish would not require a dramatic reversal of form. Fast Track paid something for helping force the pace, while In The Black had to contend with restricted room near the line.
In The Black is the bet because his price allows more room for those small margins. His Doncaster fifth was only a length behind the winner, and it came on just his third start. A Carlisle win shows the minimum trip is familiar. With several rivals inclined to press forward, he should have a chance to settle behind the speed rather than make his own running. The objection is that his Lowther run was disappointing: a sympathetic reading of one troubled finish does not make him wholly reliable.
Flann Sunna is the strongest alternative at the available price. His Doncaster third was a solid, uncomplicated performance and his earlier six-furlong wins suggest he should keep finding up the hill. He could certainly win, but the gap between their prices is larger than the gap between their recent form. Mussab's progress deserves respect, although his recent all-weather and soft-ground wins leave a different surface question. In The Black gets the preference on value, not because Flann Sunna lacks ability.
Next best: Flann Sunna at 5/2.
Minimum acceptable price: 4/1.
Newmarket 13:50 | Chasing Daylight | 2pt win at 9/2, General
Back Chasing Daylight: 2pt win at 9/2, General.
This is a Group race in which potential has to be weighed against established sprint form. Miss Kodi and Dark Issue bring useful references from stronger six-furlong races, but both still have to answer the seven-furlong question. Chasing Daylight and Sweltering have already shown that the distance suits, although their maiden wins do not by themselves establish Pattern quality.
Chasing Daylight made the more persuasive impression for today's test. At Yarmouth she travelled with enough purpose to suggest the trip was comfortable, then responded decisively when asked to settle the race. She remains inexperienced, and that is the main concern in a field this size: if she races too freely or fails to secure cover, the finish will be a different examination. There is nevertheless a reasonable chance that her first run understated what she can become, and the price offers room for that improvement.
Siena Storm is the next best. Her Salisbury mile win establishes stamina and the latest Goodwood fourth included a shortage of room. The return to seven furlongs asks her to hold a sharper position, but she has a more developed body of form than several shorter-priced improvers. Minkaas also merits close attention after finishing strongly at Doncaster. Another slow start would be costly, though, and Chasing Daylight is preferred as the filly most likely to combine an economical trip with further progress.
Next best: Siena Storm at 5/1.
Minimum acceptable price: 4/1.
Newmarket 14:25 | Flora of Bermuda | 3pt win at 15/8, Bet365
Back Flora of Bermuda: 3pt win at 15/8, Bet365.
Flora of Bermuda has the strongest combination of current seven-furlong form and tactical adaptability. Her Goodwood win established that the distance is well within range, and the Park Stakes second confirmed she could sustain that level against serious opposition. The York Group 1 defeat was disappointing, but this is a less demanding assignment than that race and it should not outweigh the two more relevant performances.
Witness Stand gives the contest a plausible source of pace. Flora need not challenge him immediately; sitting behind the leaders and using her speed after the dip looks a more economical route. Her three-pound allowance from the older males helps, but Doncaster showed that she can still be vulnerable to a stronger late finisher. The case is therefore about her overall chance at the available price, not an assumption that the favourite has the race at her mercy.
Time To Turn is the strongest alternative. His Jean Prat sixth was respectable Group 1 form and his juvenile seven-furlong win gives the distance a sound foundation. An 89-day absence introduces a fitness question that Flora does not share. Pina Sonata is another danger after her Sceptre success, particularly with the Fanshawe yard in form, but she is moving into a stronger race. Flora's recent evidence and ability to take a sensible position make her the day's NAP, provided the quoted price remains available.
Next best: Time To Turn at 11/4.
Minimum acceptable price: 7/4.
Newmarket 14:57 | Rogue Passion | 2pt win at 5/1, General
Back Rogue Passion: 2pt win at 5/1, General.
Musical Times is the most likely winner of the Fillies' Mile. There is little point disguising that conclusion: she was emphatic in the May Hill, travelled strongly and drew well clear over the distance she faces again. The problem is that her price leaves little room for the ordinary uncertainties attached to a juvenile moving into a Group 1.
Rogue Passion is the value alternative. Her Longchamp Group 3 win came over a mile, so she is not being asked to prove her stamina at the same time as her class. She has already progressed from the promise shown at Carlisle and remains lightly raced enough for another advance. Matching Musical Times will require a personal best, but the prices imply a wider gulf than the available evidence warrants. A settled run behind the pace would give her the best opportunity to make that improvement count.
Forbidden Fire is an interesting danger after beating colts at Doncaster. Her trainer has identified the mile as a question to answer, however, and her keenness in that seven-furlong win is relevant. Dancing Destiny is experienced and consistent, but the latest Moyglare deficit leaves a lot to recover. Musical Times remains the independently tracked next best because her form is plainly the strongest; Rogue Passion is the advised bet because the price is the more attractive part of the contest.
Next best: Musical Times at 8/15.
Minimum acceptable price: 5/1.
Newmarket 15:30 | Devil's Peak | 1pt e/w at 15/2, Bet365, 4 places
Back Devil's Peak: 1pt e/w at 15/2, Bet365, 4 places.
The Ascot form makes this a tightly connected handicap. Turty Tree narrowly beat Decade of Time, with Archers Bay and Lord d'Or close behind, so it would be unwise to treat one finishing order as a permanent hierarchy. Archers Bay has since run well over this course and distance, strengthening an already dependable case and leaving him five pounds below his revised rating in this early-closing race, while Lord d'Or can be marked up for the trouble he encountered.
Devil's Peak offers a different and appealing line of improvement. His Doncaster win showed that twelve furlongs suits, and the five-pound rise looks a reasonable response rather than a punishment that closes the door. Earlier Newbury and Goodwood runs support the idea that he has been building towards this sort of test. The Gosden yard's current form adds confidence, although the horse's own progress matters more than the stable percentage.
The concern is the deeper opposition. He cannot afford to expend energy early and expect to pass everything late, particularly if the leaders control the fractions. Even allowing for that, the available price and four-place offer make his chance attractive on both sides of the bet. Archers Bay is the next best because his recent course-and-distance second is the clearest reliability reference. Liberate is less exposed and Lord d'Or is fairly treated, but Devil's Peak brings the stronger recent winning performance. He is the preferred each-way handicap bet, not a selection made merely to oppose the favourite.
Next best: Archers Bay at 7/2.
Minimum acceptable price: 15/2.
Newmarket 16:10 | The Prettiest Star | 3pt win at 9/4, Ladbrokes
Back The Prettiest Star: 3pt win at 9/4, Ladbrokes.
The Prettiest Star has been competing against stronger fillies than most of today's opposition. Her Guineas fourth established genuine quality and the Sceptre third showed that the ability was still present in September. Last year's Rockfel second also gives her a relevant Rowley Mile reference, so this is not an unfamiliar course on which she must rediscover her balance.
The drop to six furlongs deserves proper scrutiny. She has spent this season over seven furlongs and a mile, and a sharp tactical sprint could leave her with too much to do. Her Nottingham win as a juvenile came at six, however, so the distance is not wholly speculative. With Zen Diva and Dance In The Storm capable of occupying forward positions, there should be enough pace for the selection's stronger finishing effort to become useful.
Zen Diva is the next best. Her progress from handicaps to a Salisbury Listed win is convincing and she has fewer questions about current sprinting speed. She needs another advance to match the selection's class, but that is plausible rather than fanciful. Dance In The Storm also has useful handicap form, though a price close to The Prettiest Star's leaves less compensation for the class rise. The selection's ability earns the preference, with the shorter distance the reason to insist on a sensible price.
Next best: Zen Diva at 6/1.
Minimum acceptable price: 2/1.
Newmarket 16:45 | Naga | 0.75pt e/w at 12/1, Unibet, 4 places
Back Naga: 0.75pt e/w at 12/1, Unibet, 4 places.
The Pride Stakes is a useful reminder that the best-known form and the best price are not always attached to the same filly. Touleen's Coronation second is a strong class reference, while Legacy Link's Musidora win and Oaks second give her a major chance if she recovers that level. Silver Lake arrives with a different appeal after a sustained sequence of handicap wins.
Naga has recent Listed form at exactly ten furlongs, and her Yarmouth success is a better guide to today's assignment than some of her longer-distance efforts. She used her position efficiently and kept enough in reserve to finish the job. Stall one should allow her jockey to make an early decision without an unnecessary wide move, although On Message's presence means a comfortable lead is far from assured.
That pace objection is important. A contested lead could expose Naga to the finishing speed of classier rivals, and the move into Group 3 company requires improvement. The available price leaves room for both concerns, while the verified four-place offer makes the each-way case coherent. Touleen is the next best because she has the strongest established form, but ten furlongs is a new question for her. Silver Lake's progression is also respected. Naga is preferred at the prices because she brings a recent, relevant performance without requiring a new trip or a recovery from a heavy defeat.
Next best: Touleen at 4/1.
Minimum acceptable price: 11/1.
Newmarket 17:20 | Bintola | 2pt win at 11/2, General
Back Bintola: 2pt win at 11/2, General.
The closing handicap contains plenty of horses changing trip or trying to recover old form. Bintola offers a firmer starting point: his recent third over this course and distance was a competitive effort, and he now returns from a one-pound lower mark. That is a modest change, but it is a concrete advantage rather than a speculative explanation for improvement.
His earlier six-furlong runs were less convincing, which makes the stronger finish over seven especially relevant. He should be able to settle behind the pace and come into the race as others begin to work. The risk is familiar for a horse ridden that way: a slow gallop or blocked passage could leave the finishing effort arriving too late. The current price gives sufficient room for that possibility.
Lion of Mali is the next best. His Newbury win and earlier Rowley Mile second establish a sound seven-furlong profile, while his latest Doncaster defeat was not a comprehensive one. The yard's current form is encouraging, although the revised mark still asks him to improve. Nanoscience and Lunario were close enough to Bintola here last time to make this a competitive renewal, not a simple collateral-form exercise. Bintola earns the preference through the combination of recent course-and-distance evidence, a slightly easier mark and the available price.
Next best: Lion of Mali at 9/2.
Minimum acceptable price: 9/2.
Best bets of the day
Flora of Bermuda is the NAP on the strength of her recent seven-furlong Group form. The Prettiest Star is the next best of the day, with her class making her attractive if the sprint is honestly run. Devil's Peak and Naga supply the most interesting each-way angles: both have recent winning form relevant to today's test, but neither is immune to a less favourable pace setup.
