The direct answer
If a pre-match football player market says the player must start, the bet is normally void when that player begins on the bench. If the rule requires only an appearance, the bet can remain active when the player comes on and is commonly void only if the player never takes part. An ordinary accumulator usually continues without a void player leg. A Bet Builder needs a second check because the bookmaker may reprice the remaining legs or void the complete builder.
So the answer to “if a player does not start, is the bet void?” is sometimes, but not automatically. Check the participation rule first and the type of bet second.
Separate three facts: whether the player started, whether the player took any part and whether a named replacement concession applied.
Is the bet void if the player does not start?
There is no single rule covering every football player bet. A market marked must start is normally void when the player begins on the bench, even if that player later comes on. A market requiring only participation can remain active once the substitute enters the match. If the player never plays, the individual selection is commonly void.

The accepted receipt and operator rules decide the case. Do not assume that a rule used for goalscorers also applies to shots, tackles, cards or assists.
Starting, appearing and taking no part are different
A player on the bench is a participant in the matchday squad but may not be a starter. Some pre-match player markets require a start. Others stand if the player appears for any amount of time. A player who remains an unused substitute has taken no part at all.
The accepted market description should tell you which test applies. In-play bets can use different participation conditions because the player may already be on the field when the selection is offered.

These examples do not replace the terms attached to an accepted bet. Rules can change, and another player market from the same operator may use a different participation test.
What happens to a Bet Builder if a player does not play?

Substitute and replacement concessions
Some offers transfer a qualifying player selection to a substitute. These are promotional or product terms, not a universal settlement principle. Check which competitions and markets qualify, whether the replacement must be direct and whether the concession changes cash-out availability.
A concession should be shown on the accepted bet or linked terms. If the ordinary rule and promotional rule conflict, preserve both pages and ask the operator which one governed the acceptance.

- Confirm whether the bet was placed before kick-off or in-play.
- Read the exact player-market title and participation condition.
- Check the official starting team and substitution record.
- Record whether the player entered and when.
- Check any replacement-player icon or concession.

- Reproduce the final return and save the evidence.

What if the player starts and is injured immediately?

What if the team sheet was wrong?
Keep the official competition record and the operator's data-source rule. Ask the operator to identify the source used for settlement.
