The direct answer

A successful full cash out closes the entire open position for the amount confirmed by the operator. That amount is credited to the account and, in the ordinary case, the later sporting result no longer changes the return. The key word is successful: seeing a quote or pressing the first button is not the same as completing the transaction.

Key point: Use the success message, settled bet record and account credit as evidence. Do not assume an earlier quote was accepted.

How a full cash out completes

  • The operator calculates a live early-settlement quote.
  • You request full cash out and may need to confirm the current amount.
  • The request is processed while the market can continue moving.
  • A success message confirms acceptance.
  • The bet moves to settled history and the amount enters the account balance.

Bet365's current help explains that a slight processing delay can allow a price change or market suspension to make a request unsuccessful. Betfair Sportsbook similarly tells customers to check the processing status and settled history. If those signs are absent, treat the original bet as open and check why cash out is unavailable before assuming the bet has closed.

What the cash-out amount includes

The confirmed figure is normally the total amount credited for settling the position. It includes the stake value represented in the settlement, so the original stake should not be added a second time. To describe profit or loss, compare the final cash-out credit with the original total stake.

FigureMeaning
Original stakeThe amount risked when the bet was accepted.
Potential returnThe maximum return if every live condition succeeds.
Cash-out amountThe total offered to close the complete position now.
Cash-out profit or lossConfirmed cash-out amount minus the original stake.

This distinction matters because interfaces often show one large settlement figure without separately labelling how much of it represents the original stake. Recording the cash-out amount as pure profit overstates the result.

Worked full cash-out example

A £20 single at decimal odds of 5.00 has a potential total return of £100. During the event, the operator offers £62 to close it.

FigureCalculationResult
Original stakeAccepted bet£20
Potential total return£20 × 5.00£100
Confirmed full cash outTotal credited£62
Net result£62 - £20£42 profit

The account receives £62, not £82. If the selection later wins, the original £100 is not added. If it loses, the ordinary result does not remove the confirmed £62, subject to genuine error and resettlement provisions.

The amount may still be poor value when compared with the probability-weighted position. Use the cash-out value calculator to test the offer rather than comparing it only with the original stake.

What happens afterwards

Paddy Power's published rules say a successful full cash out settles immediately and later events have no impact on the return. The settled receipt should show the transaction and leave no remaining live portion.

If some potential return remains, you may have used partial rather than full cash out. Check the updated receipt before assuming the entire position is closed. The partial cash-out guide shows how the settled and live portions fit together.

If the original bet later would have won, that does not restore the surrendered position. A full cash out is not a temporary pause. It is the agreed settlement of the complete ticket.

Operator rules can differ

Availability, eligible markets, maximum amounts, confirmation settings and error clauses vary. William Hill's current cash-out help, for example, describes product exclusions, limits and a right to correct cash-out errors. Other operators use their own wording and thresholds.

Read the current terms attached to the account and market. A general description of full cash out cannot override a specific promotion, sport or settlement rule. BetOwl keeps the common process separate from operator-specific exceptions for exactly that reason.

A failed request is not a full cash out

Live prices can move during the short gap between request and confirmation. The operator may show a revised amount for a second confirmation, reject the request or suspend the market completely. None of those outcomes closes the original position unless the account records a successful settlement.

Use three checks in order. Look for an on-screen success message, then open settled bets and finally confirm the corresponding account credit. A push notification or screenshot of the earlier quote shows what was displayed, but it does not by itself prove acceptance. If the interface shows the bet as open, do not add the quoted amount to the balance in your records.

This distinction also matters in a complaint. A customer who tried to accept £62 but received an error has a different issue from a customer whose account confirmed £62 and later removed it. The first concerns a failed request and the feature's availability. The second may concern an error clause or resettlement and should be checked through the cash-out reversal guide.

Full cash out compared with partial cash out

Full cash out settles the entire open position. Partial cash out settles only the selected portion and leaves a reduced potential return running. The correct choice cannot be inferred from the labels alone because both offers may contain the same pricing margin.

Suppose the full offer is £100 and an interface allows 40% partial cash out on a proportional basis. The immediate credit may be £40, while 60% of the original potential return remains live. That does not mean the customer has secured £40 profit, and it does not mean the remaining ticket will return 60% in every possible settlement. Voids, deductions and product rules can still affect the open portion.

Before confirming either route, write down the immediate credit, remaining maximum return, original stake and any benefit surrendered. Full cash out is easier to record because there should be no live portion afterwards. Partial cash out needs two linked entries so the final result is not mistaken for a second independent bet.

Promotions and free bets need a separate check

Cashing out can remove or change a promotional benefit. Enhanced prices, bet credits, insurance offers and free-bet stakes may carry eligibility or withdrawal conditions. An operator may also restrict cash out until a particular threshold is reached.

Record the cash value actually received, not the headline promotional return that would have applied only if the original position continued. If a bonus disappears, include that lost benefit when comparing the routes before confirmation.

What to record

  • The original receipt, stake, price and potential return.
  • The displayed offer and the time it appeared.
  • The final amount confirmed, which may differ from the first quote.
  • The success message and settled transaction.
  • Any promotion or benefit removed by settlement.
  • The net result after subtracting the original stake.

If a confirmed transaction is later changed, preserve the records and use the guide to cash-out reversals and cancellations to distinguish a failed request from an operator resettlement.

Frequently asked questions

Does the amount include my stake?

Normally yes. It is the total settlement credit, not profit on top of a separately returned stake.

Can the final score change a successful full cash out?

Normally no. The complete position has already settled, subject to applicable error and resettlement rules.

What if the amount changes as I press the button?

Read the confirmation screen. If the request fails or needs reconfirmation, the original bet remains open until a successful transaction appears in the account.
